Flight delay compensation
Flight delay compensation in India
No Indian rule pays cash for a delay; cancellation and denied boarding do. What the rules do give on a delay: meals from two, three or four hours by flight length, and a hotel on a long wait. Here is what the rules say, a claim you can send today, and where the airlines take it.
General information, not legal advice. Not a promise of payment.
What the Indian rules say
- Compensation
- No Indian rule pays cash for a delay. Cancellation and denied boarding do.
- While you wait
- Meals from 2, 3 or 4 h by flight length. A hotel past 24 h — or 6 h at night.
- Refund or rebooking
- Domestic and 6+ h late: another flight within 6 h, or the fare back.
- When nothing is owed
- No payout if the cause was outside the airline's control — weather and air-traffic control count here, and on a delay they take the meals and hotel with them.
These are the lines AirwayControl shows for a route under these rules, word for word.

A claim you can send today
This is the claim AirwayControl writes for a flight under the Indian rules. It names the rules, asks for what they provide and asks the airline to give its reasons if it says no. It names no sum. Fill in the brackets and send it from your own email.

If you consider that extraordinary circumstances under paragraphs 1.4 and 1.5 apply, please set out what they were. Please confirm receipt and let me know the outcome in writing. If you consider that compensation is not due, please tell me the specific reason and the evidence you rely on. Kind regards, [your name]
